El próximo jueves día 24 de octubre a partir de las 19 horas, Espai Sant Marc nos ofrece la oportunidad de aproximarnos a la obra de una artista austriaca Cornelia König, que está realizando una residencia en este espacio y en su open studio nos mostrará diversos trabajos realizados in situ de fotografía y cristal. En palabras de la propia artista;

The netx Thursday October the 24th, at 7 pm Espai sant Marc AIR will offer the oportunity to know the work of the austrian artist Cornelia König , who is doing an artist residence in this space. In her Open studio she will show us several works that she is doing in photography and glass. in her own words:
“At a time when mass tourism and overtourism are becoming increasingly pressing issues in our society, Cornelia König‘s artwork, that she did at the residency „espai sant marc air“ in Sineu, invites viewers to reflect on the dual nature of light and shadow. The interplay of reflective surfaces and opaque materials creates a visual metaphor for the complexity of travel in the modern world. The black sandblasted glass symbolizes the often dark sides of tourism: environmental destruction, cultural alienation, and the overcrowding of popular destinations. In contrast, the sandblasted mirror captures light while simultaneously reflecting the beauty and fascination of travel experiences.
This duality is further enhanced by a carefully curated selection of Polaroids and photographs that document both the joys and challenges of traveling.”

Cornelia König’s artistic approach;
«Apart from political and socio-critical topics Cornelia König’s artwork reflects mostly autobiographical themes. Repeatedly they show love and happiness, separation, relationships on a personal level, communication and social interactions. König’s imagery allows us to share her personal souvenirs which can touch us with their narrative power, even if we do not necessarily consciously decode them. Holidays en famille or individual trips to remote countries add special impulses to her art – a work which is mostly developed in series. Without falling into a creatively blurred retrospection, Cornelia König succeeds in generalising matters which are inspired by her private life to a higher level of universal validity. In this sense the artist’s sceptical query for the self as well as her emotionality becomes figuratively a window to the world providing a plethora of possible interpretations.
Working method description;
Cornelia König often employs sandblasted glass plates and transparent film to bear spatially-formal superimposed images in a staggered arrangement, which serve to capture complex levels of content and meaning. The materials are held together by means of paper, bands, tape orwire, or arranged in a series in light boxes or cardboard boxes. A plane with writing, which can consist of single words, text fragments or entirepassages, is often an integral part of the work along with the central medium of photography. The artist purposefully selects quotes from literature, pop music, psychology or philosophy in order to clarify the artistic statement of each piece.»
