On Saturday, October the 7th, 2017, espai sant Marc held the exhibition and the artist’s book presentation Búnker_1 by Rafela Nicolau. A fruitful project research work, the more of it was done in Mallorca.
The Búnker_1 sample consists of a plastic translation of its research, which in this case falls to a selection of the coastal fortifications of the island of Mallorca, built between the Civil War and the postwar period, facing the suspicion of ‘a possible attack by Allied forces in the dawn of World War II. At the moment, the investigation in question gives body to its project of doctoral thesis.
Rafela Nicolau, degree in History of Art, University of the Balearic Islands 2014, and a Master’s Degree in Text, Documents and Cultural Intervention, University of Córdoba 2015. She is living in Andalusia and Mallorca since 2011. Following her research itinerary, she presents the master’s final work on post-war architectural reconstruction, based on the activity of the General Directorate of Devastated Regions in the province of Córdoba, between the years 1939 and 1956.
After that, and from the beginning of 2016, she goes into research on the defensive architecture of the 20th century, starting from the area of Gibraltar, study of a paradigm. Since then, he has participated in several congresses and conferences, in Spain and abroad.
El Dissabte dia 7 d’octubre de 2017, es va presentar a espai Sant Marc de Sineu l’exposició i el llibre d’artista Búnker_1 de Rafela Nicolau. Un projecte fruit del seu treball d’investigació, fet en gran part a Mallorca.
La mostra Búnker_1 consisteix en una traducció plàstica de la seva investigació, la qual recau, en aquest cas, en una selecció de les fortificacions costeres de l’illa de Mallorca, construïdes entre la Guerra Civil i la postguerra, de cara a la sospita d’un possible atac de les forces aliades en les albors de la Segona Guerra Mundial. Actualment, la investigació en qüestió dóna cos al seu projecte de tesi doctoral.
Rafela Nicolau és llicenciada en Història de l’Art per la Universitat de les Illes Balears (2014) i màster en Textos, Documentos e Intervención Cultural per la Universidad de Córdoba (2015). Resideix entre Andalusia i Mallorca des de 2011. Seguint l’itinerari investigador, presenta el treball de final de màster sobre la reconstrucció arquitectònica de la postguerra, a partir de l’activitat de la Dirección General de Regiones Devastadas a la província de Còrdova, entre els anys 1939 i 1956.
Posteriorment a això, i des d’inicis de 2016, s’endinsa en la investigació sobre l’arquitectura defensiva del segle XX, partint de l’àrea de l’Estret de Gibraltar com a cas d’estudi d’un paradigma. Des d’aleshores, ha participat i participa en congressos i jornades, tant a nivell nacional com internacional.
